Wed, Apr 6: Driving the Circuit

Today we are driving the circuit to Tombstone, Bisbee, and Douglas.

We stopped at Tombstone, visiting Boot Hill.  Very interesting descriptions of how people died in the pamphlet for sale (glad we got it).  And someone remarked that 1882 was not a good year, as there were lots of violent deaths that year (and to be fair, also 1881 and 1883).

And an unusual natural death

We found our old western town in Tombstone, complete with cowboys and gunslingers.

We stopped in to the Tombstone Epitaph (newspaper), now a museum.

 Saw the original printing press

And other period furniture and presses.

We toured the Bird Cage Theater

And the courthouse

But the OK Corral was a paid show to see, and we decided to skip that.

We also saw the world’s largest rose bush.  Its trunk was huge.

Next stop was Bisbee, a charming town

with the old Copper Queen Hotel boasting a pair of Tiffany lamps.

And we took a tour of the Queen Mine …

And stopped at the overlook of the Lavender open pit mine (named for a person, not the color).

Then on to Douglas, and the Gadsden Hotel, with a fabulous Tiffany mural.

We headed out to the Chiricahua National Monument, with its interesting rock structures.

Unfortunately, the road was closed beyond the visitors center for repair, and it was too late to hike the long trail in.

We did see some deer by the road as we drove back to Tucson.
